Funding enables us to open up summer opportunity

Hybrid Arts are thrilled to have been awarded funding from Warwickshire Children & Voluntary Youth Services (WCVYS) to deliver a programme of work experience over the summer school holidays.

This one-off, three-week project hopes to get young people switched on over a notoriously challenging period during which, for many families in our region, young people will be remaining at home whilst their peers go away on holidays - inevitably leading to manifestations of boredom, frustration and with it a risk of unsafe behaviours.

Our On The Up project will be based around high quality arts practice and underpinned by a model of Peer to Peer Mentoring to support personal development and help to meet individual interests, skills gaps and aspirations. We hope to put young people on the right step forward ready for when the school and college gates re-open in September, bringing young people from across the District together in a collaborative project that not only offers something to fun to engage in, but also provides an opportunity to develop soft skills such as communication, problem solving and team work.

The project is underpinned - as is all we do - by employer engagement to help grow aspirations, and includes a series of mock job interviews and a chance to present the work the participants produce to local business representatives, receiving professional feedback.

The first playworkplay collection to be revealed

The time has come. After months and months of dyeing, printing, cutting and sewing our Print Artists can at last leave the studio and step out in the light - armed with boxes and rails.

Our rails are coming to a park near you - well, near to you if you happen to be in Royal Leamington Spa.

Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd August will see the town's glorious Jephson Gardens overrun by artists. Art in the Park 2015 will bring painters, sculptors, carpenters and more - usually hidden away in their studios - face to face with the general public in a weekend of "art, creativity, inspiration and fun". If the thought of this doesn't fill you with horror then do pop in and seek out the playworkplay tent - our artists will be inking and printing all day, and we are inviting you to get messy with us. There will be drop in workshops in linocut inking and printing and collagraph printing. Why not ink up your own plate and create a postcard to take away with you and foist upon loved ones...?

The event is especially exciting for us because we will be unveiling the first full playworkplay printed textiles collection of homewares, garden-wear and accessories. Wares available to purchase will include stationary, gift-wrap, bags & purses, tool belts and tea towels - all handmade round the corner at Spencer Yard studios and all using recycled materials. So, you can walk away with a clear conscience as well as a bag (also recycled, naturally) of goodies.

And although we'd like you to spend all day with us, there are of course multifarious and brilliant activities going on at Art in the Park including over 85 exhibiting artists, workshops and demos, live theatre, music and dance as well as delicious food and drink. And it's free to come in.

Certainly worth a visit to our Royal spa town, wouldn't you agree?
